It's early Saturday morning on a bank holiday long-weekend and it's been a full-on week of work in the Big Smoke. Like almost every other Londoner, my girlfriend and I decide to sojourn to the countryside for the rest of the weekend, and to see her parents and family. We spend the day playing with nieces and nephews and helping out around the house - it's good to be around loved ones. We wake up Sunday morning after a welcomed, and much needed, lie-in and come into a busy kitchen being prepped for Sunday lunch. Our work from yesterday gets us a free pass on the prep at hand - we're going for a long walk.
We get dressed after coffee, walk down the back garden, past the horses who are happy to see us - we feel bad that we have nothing to feed them - and through the gate that leads into the expanse of woodland that surrounds the property. Filling our lungs with rich country air in every breath, we're happy for this time away together. Just a little over an hour out, we're on our way back home for lunch and come across a wild apple tree - they will make a good appetiser to the feast ahead - and decide to bring enough back for everyone but have little luck lining our pockets with enough. What now? With full pockets, I take off my pecan coloured, pencil curled wide brimmed, 100% rabbit fur felt fedora hat with a natural leather cord weaving around the base of the teardrop crown, complementing the narrow, almond coloured grosgrain band, bow and hand-stitched brim binding. Offsetting the rugged knotted cord and traditional ribbon is the naturally dyed 40mm frayed linen hatband reaching out for the edges of the brim. Apples now fill the signature 100% silk liner emblazoned with the House of Harding logo in the top and our Freedom Feather pattern sides. It's a movable feast.
We’re coming up on the back of the house, through the gate, passing the fence to the horses as they come to greet us. We feed them an apple each.
